After our lovely head of school Cathy Lowenstien moved into a new chapter of her life in 2019, we welcomed Emily Greenberg to the VTT family. Since she came, she has been working closely with her colleagues on many additions to VTT. A couple examples are joining ISABC (Independent School Association of British Columbia), she also wanted to bring ISTEAM into the students’ lives, and to re-brand the Tornadoes athletics. She also wanted to do more outdoor learning, so there was a tent with benches added to the playground. Mrs. Greenberg was a great addition to the school and we hope that there will be more heads like her and Cathy Lowenstien coming to continue shaping the school.
Since Emily came to the school she has changed VTT for the better, including adding VTT for ISABC. ISABC is an organization of schools that have a vision for students to have a better learning experience at school. Most of the schools that join ISABC have sports teams, so Emily wanted to extend the Tornadoes’ playing field. Since VTT joined ISABC, more Tornadoes teams were added like ultimate frisbee and lego robotics. Students have really enjoyed VTT joining ISABC because there are really exciting sports to play where students can represent their school and make new friends.
Emily wanted to integrate I-STEAM into the students’ learning experience. If you didn’t know, I-STEAM stands for Israel, Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, and Math. Normally, it would be STEAM, but since this is a Jewish school, Emily wanted to put Israel into our learning, so she added the “I” to STEAM. In all, Mrs. Greenberg has been a great addition to the VTT family.
