Why some Jews are against ahe Israeli Government

By: Yuval Kaner

When you’re scrolling Facebook like an old man, you might come to a political post made by a Jew or even an Israeli person saying something bad about the Israeli government. In this article I am going to talk about why they think like that

AND NOT whether they are right or wrong.

First, we need to talk about some history: in 1967, in the six day war, Israel fought over the Gaza strip and won against the Egyptian army. Now, Israel didn’t want to incorporate the Gaza strip to the country, because then there would be more Arab than Jewish people in the country. It also meant that Israel will have to let all those people work somewhere.

Until 2005 the Israeli government chose to leave the question “What do we do with Gaza?” unknown. In 1987 Hamas was formed but the people of Gaza did not like the idea of conquering Israel. It was just after 2005, when the Israeli government officially said that they are not going to incorporate Gaza, but also not let the people there have their own country. That’s when Hamas grew bigger and gained control over Gaza. Gaza was not recognized as an independent country and had limited international recognition. That made some people in Gaza hate Israel, and those people joined Hamas.
The main reason most people think the Israeli government is bad is because they don’t like the prime minister Benjamin Netanyahu.

because of a few things that I’m going to list quickly:

  • People think that he is allowing only people that agree with him to work in the government.
  • He tried to make a law that will weaken the judicial reform, which are people that check if the rules the government makes are good for the country. Weakening it will make him able to create rules that he is not supposed to be able to make.
  • Netanyahu was officially indicted for breach of trust, accepting bribes, and fraud.
  • Ultra orthodox families pay less taxes than families that aren’t.
  • some people think he could have managed the war better

To conclude, the reasons people have to be against the Israeli government are many, but are they good enough? Are they really reasons that make you hate the government? I’ll leave the questions I previously listed open for you to answer.
