What happens when climate change has gotten to a point where sea levels have risen 58 feet? To many people, climate change is just a hoax, but will they be able to deny climate change when their city is under water? It is a fact backed up by proof and study that climate change is real and the effects are vast. Cities including Tampa, Bangkok, Richmond, and Miami are predicted to be partially submerged by 2060 this is extremely alarming. To many this will mean immediate evacuation. This could displace more than ten million people.
When most if not all of Antarctica has melted what happens to that land? When or if this happens then immediately research teams from countries all over the world will begin studying the land to see things like if the new land is habitable, what the land is like, and what bacteria grows on the land. Many things will be uncovered, including an ancient sub glacial lake called Lake Vostok. Recently a Russian team of scientists was able to take samples from it showing a possibility of life. When or if Antarctica’s ice sheet melts, the world will be forever changed.
The melting of billions of tons of ice each year has not only affected humans, it is also affecting marine life. The krill are a small crustacean that uses sea ice as a food source. The Krill population has dropped 80% since 1970. The added water dramatically reduces current speed. This is disastrous to animals who have lived with this speed for thousands of years.
Antarctic animals are terribly affected by the melting of Antarctica. For polar bears this means that they can be separated from their preferred hunting grounds. Many species are finding that their food sources are disappearing. This shift has affected most species in or near Antarctica. Before this situation gets worse, it’s important for the governments of the world to take decisive actions to reduce greenhouse gas emissions.
